Spring '09 News Library Website Has New Look!
The library website has been visually redesigned to match the new University design. The access to information is the same as it has been, but the links have "swapped" sides. We hope it won't be too confusing for those who've gotten used to the other menuing. When you mouse over the arrows, an extended menu will appear offering additional options. Library Celebrates Black History Month The Library had several displays to commemorate Black History Month in February. The event which created the most excitement, however, was the completion of a 1,000 piece puzzle depicting four generations of African American women. Located near the elevators, library visitors took time to connect the pieces a few at a time.
The last pieces are put into place by several visitors. The beautiful puzzle is now complete and is still attracting attention as visitors stop to admire it. We'd like to thank Rita Franks, Government Documents Librarian, for providing the puzzle and to Deborah Simmons, Coordinator of Instructional Technology, for capturing the completion in photos.
Fall '08 News Library Participates in University Wellness Fair The Library continued its annual participation in the Wellness Fair on Thursday, November 6th with a booth highlighting Government Publications on various health-related subjects. Mrs. Rita Franks, Government Documents Librarian, prepared the exhibits and organized the participation of Library faculty & staff. LA State Documents Depository 60th Anniversary
In celebration of the 60th Anniversary, a student contest was held allowing students to guess the approximate number of state public documents which are placed in the University collection each year. The answer is 6,000 documents! Congratulations to the following students who had the correct answer in the drawing:
Louisiana Tech University's Prescott Memorial Library hosted a reception in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Louisiana State Documents Depository Program. This program has been in operation since 1948, providing free public access to state-produced documents and information. State Recorder of Documents, Ferol Foos of the State Library of Louisiana, will give a brief history of the program. All were welcome to attend the event on Monday, Oct. 6th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Prescott Memorial Library. Light refreshments will be served. Spring '08 News New Book Titles From NetLibrary VII Listed below are some of the first electronic books which have been added to the Library catalog. The entire collection will consist of over 3,000 titles and will be added during the next few months. This newest collection of NetLibrary was acquired through a grant from the Student Technology Fund awarded during the Winter Quarter.
You can go directly to NetLibrary or just use the Library Catalog to find books of interest. Library Exhibits In April This month the Library is focusing on Earth Day, April 22, 2008, with displays and bookmarks. Come by and pick up a free bookmark! To learn more about this special day, visit these websites: earthdaynetwork and EarthDay.gov In March The Library is celebrating Women's History Month with a special display and contest. Take the challenge . . . Attempt to identify the women's pictures on the collage and receive a small candy bar for your efforts. Come see us soon! Election Resources Guide, 2008 Mrs. Rita Franks, our Government Documents Librarian, has just created a blog that is interesting and accessible to library patrons. This is a resource that will keep you current on the vast amount of information generated by government sources. One of its many helpful features is the highlighting of a "Web Site of the Week" to focus on a particular resource of widespread interest.
