Counseling and Career Services at Louisiana Tech has been reaccredited by an international organization.
Counseling and Career Services was evaluated by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc., against high standards of counseling practice and was found to offer competent and reliable professional services to its clientele. Approval by IACS is also dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence of counseling performance.
Director Ron Cathey said the department worked on creating a new waiting room for added privacy for clients and improving group offerings. He said every member of the department was instrumental in helping to attain reaccreditation.
“What makes this work is the wonderful staff,” Cathey said. “As far as I’m concerned, this is the best clinical staff you can have.”
Dr. Jim King, vice president for student affairs, said the Career and Counseling Services are invaluable to Tech students.
“It’s immeasurable in terms of student productivity,” he said. “This is an incredible staff; they’re true professionals. Like any other accreditation process, this enables us to ensure we are providing the right services and they’re available to our students.”
Tech’s Counseling and Career Services offers personal counseling, academic support, alcohol and other drug education and counseling, career decision making and job search assistance, and leadership development to students.
